Course Information: Information Retrieval<\/title><br \/>\n<\/head><br \/>\n<body><\/p>\n<h1>Course Information<\/h1>\n<h2>Course Title: <strong>Information Retrieval<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Semester: 2nd<\/p>\n<p>Weekly Hours: 3<\/p>\n<p>ECTS Credits: 6<\/p>\n<h2>Learning Objectives:<\/h2>\n<p>To develop an understanding and practical experience in techniques of statistical natural language processing, as well as information retrieval and processing, to support the design and development of advanced internet-based systems and services.<\/p>\n<h2>Course Topics:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Understanding the functioning of search engines<\/li>\n<li>The “hidden” web and methods of processing & retrieving information from it<\/li>\n<li>Basic principles of statistical natural language processing<\/li>\n<li>Basic principles of information retrieval<\/li>\n<li>Search engines<\/li>\n<li>Basic principles and problems of distributed information retrieval<\/li>\n<li>The problem of finding and representing web pages on the internet<\/li>\n<li>The problem of source selection on the internet<\/li>\n<li>The problem of aggregating results from multiple sources on the internet<\/li>\n<li>Search in peer-to-peer networks<\/li>\n<li>Social Search \u2013 Semantic Search<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Teaching Method:<\/h2>\n<p>\n Lectures supported by slides and other educational materials (3 hours\/week),<br \/>\n Practical exercises (2 hours\/week),<br \/>\n Laboratory exercises (1 hour\/week)\n <\/p>\n<h2>Student Evaluation:<\/h2>\n<p>\n Written exams and assignments (exercises\/practical work).
